The Rhode Island House of Representatives made headlines during their recent meeting by congratulating the Bishop Hendricken High School mock trial team for their historic victory at the Rhode Island mock trial tournament. This marks the first time in the school's history that they have claimed the championship title. The team is now gearing up for the National Mock Trial Championships in Phoenix, Arizona, scheduled for May 2025.
The resolution highlighted the rigorous competition, which involved 16 qualifying teams from across the state, all competing in a series of trials judged by actual magistrates. Participants not only engage in legal strategy but also develop critical life skills such as public speaking and teamwork. The Bishop Hendricken team, coached by Donna Lynch and attorney Rebecca Warr, triumphed over the Jacqueline M. Wall School in a final trial held before the Rhode Island Supreme Court on March 6, 2025.
