Planner: state controls road funding; taking over roads would be expensive for Daniel

Town Planner Eric Bunker explained that road funds largely come from the state, that the state regulates roads, and that taking over maintenance would require a larger budget than Daniel currently has. He said the town “gets authority from the State of Utah so when something is changed, the Town follows and abides by the changes,” and urged residents to stay engaged at the state level.

Planning Commissioner Scott Long commended Planner Bunker and said he favored a tax increase to provide additional help. Residents asked whether they would prefer a local tax increase or other options; no formal decision on changing tax rates or taking over road maintenance was made at the meeting. The Planning Commission will factor budget implications into the General Plan update and into any future code changes that would shift responsibilities.
