Neighbors press council on groundwater, irrigation and septic testing for Branderson Ranch

During the public hearing on the Branderson Ranch concept plan, nearby residents asked detailed questions about water resources and the effect of individual wells. Crystal Carson, who lives immediately north of the proposed subdivision, asked for the DEQ letter and timing for the project's technical responses; staff directed her to the online packet and offered to meet after the hearing to help her access the materials.

A second neighbor, Robert Miller, said he remembered Fort Hall Irrigation removing irrigation rights decades ago for land left unirrigated and asked what would happen to groundwater if new lots rely on individual domestic wells. Council members and staff repeatedly pointed to state agencies for technical determinations: “we’re looking for recommendations from those agencies when the developer submits them,” a council member said, noting IDWR and DEQ would provide findings on water rights and site suitability. The applicant, Stewart Ward, said his team plans a Level 1 nutrient/pathogen evaluation and that they expect to perform test pits on each proposed lot to evaluate septic suitability.
