Cornell Extension: 4‑H growth, SNAP‑Ed push and parenting programs

Lisa, identified at the meeting as representing Cornell Cooperative Extension, outlined recent youth and community programming: expansion of 4‑H clubs, regional competition successes and new beekeeping and STEM clubs at the Hudson campus. She highlighted efforts to host livestock clinics and a sensory‑safe morning at the county fairgrounds to make fair activities accessible to families.

On SNAP‑Ed funding, Lisa said the program must deliver 100 classes by Aug. 15 to receive a $53,000 award and described how the grant provides small samples plus materials to help families adopt healthier, lower‑cost meals. "we have to do a hundred classes by August 15th to receive the $53,000," she said, noting the program is intended as a bridge while staff seek ongoing county support for food‑security work.

Lisa also described parenting and anger‑management programming (managed by Megan Gardner) that aims to keep families together and provide strategies for de‑escalation; she said the programs partner with DSS and local groups and are delivered in schools, libraries and community sites. Supervisors asked about capacity and funding; staff said they can serve additional participants depending on available funding streams.
