District 300 unveils first draft of $500M-plus master facility plan

Dr. Frank Williams presented the first draft of Community Unit School District 300—s master facility plan on June 9, describing it as "a long range strategic roadmap" to evaluate building condition, capacity and future needs.

"The proposed master facility plan represents an investment of more than $500,000,000," Williams said, and he outlined a three-phase approach ("Now," "Soon," and "Later") organized to address immediate safety and capacity needs as well as longer-term educational alignment projects. The administration identified roughly 25 projects across the district and said the plan responds to community engagement and updated enrollment projections that anticipate about 4,000 additional students over the next decade.

Staff described the district commitment phase as roughly $87,000,000, including a $14,000,000 balance at Parkview and about $55.5 million for districtwide capital maintenance through the 2034 school year. Among the "Now" projects is a $58,000,000 additions-and-renovations project at Dundee Crown High School, which the presentation said had a groundbreaking the prior week.

Board members asked clarifying questions about how projects were categorized and whether items already underway would be shown as "committed;" staff said this is a first iteration intended for feedback and that specific project lists and priorities can be adjusted before any referendum language is finalized.

The administration said the plan aims to replace reactive repairs with strategic, districtwide investments designed to enhance safety, capacity and program alignment while considering fiscal stewardship.
