District assessment plan approved; STAR Reading and DESE alignment emphasized

The Warren Co. R-III Board approved the district assessment plan after an overview from Gina Dildine, the district's assessment coordinator. Dildine told the board the district is developing common assessments tied to new ELA curriculum materials and integrating disaggregated reporting through Canvas so teachers and leaders can adjust instruction.

Dildine emphasized compliance with state guidance and work to prepare students for state tests: “we follow the laws and regulations set forth by DESE,” and staff will continue “to implement the STAR Reading Assessment in correlation with Senate Bill 681.” She said DESE instructional testlets were used last year and that teachers showed strong interest in those resources, which likely helped student performance. Dildine said district goals include increasing and maintaining 75% of students in grades K–8 at or above grade-level reading (DESE Goal 2).

After the presentation, the board moved and seconded approval of the assessment plan and approved it by voice vote as recorded in the meeting transcript. District staff said the plan will guide assessment use across grades 2–12 and inform instructional changes based on disaggregated Canvas reports.

The board directed staff to use the adopted plan to continue aligning curriculum, assessment and interventions and report back with implementation results.
