Springmeyer Library reports rising patronage, new accessibility upgrades and expanded bilingual collections

Liz Peterson Greer, director of the Springmeyer Community Library, told supervisors the small library has seen meaningful growth in active patrons and programming since county support began. She said patron visits have increased from 443 to 538 active patrons year‑to‑date and highlighted partnerships with local businesses and school transition programs that expand outreach.

Greer described investments supported by county funding including an automatic accessible door intended to improve physical access for patrons with strollers or mobility devices, a collection expansion that includes dual‑language and bifurcated audio books, and a storywalk installation in a park to boost literacy outreach. She said the library tracks public patrons (excluding routine student visits during school hours) and is planning future tax‑help and financial literacy workshops through VITA and other partners.

Supervisors praised the growth and asked clarifying questions about how youth visits and shared collection policies are reported; the director said student use for after‑school programming is captured differently from public patron statistics and that collection access is governed by local policy.
