The proposed air museum, located at the southern terminus of Fair Park Drive, is set to occupy a 14-acre site adjacent to the Santa Maria Airport. This initiative, presented during a previous study session, is designed to serve as a hub for aviation enthusiasts and the general public alike.

The air museum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, plans to develop approximately 120,000 square feet of space, including four aircraft hangars capable of displaying up to 38 aircraft. The museum will operate from Wednesday to Sunday, providing educational opportunities through flight demonstrations and exhibitions. With an estimated 150 flight demonstrations annually, the museum aims to engage visitors and promote interest in aviation.

Parking facilities will accommodate 131 vehicles, including 14 electric vehicle charging stations, aligning with California's green building standards. The design of the museum incorporates modern architectural elements, featuring prefabricated metal structures with vibrant accents, and is intended to blend seamlessly with the airport's existing infrastructure.

In addition to the main museum building, the project includes a restoration and maintenance center, as well as two additional buildings for aircraft preservation and event support. These facilities will not only serve the museum's operational needs but also provide space for community events and educational programs.

The Planning Commission's discussions highlighted the importance of this project in fostering community engagement and supporting local tourism.
