Mayor pushes emergency funding for tornado cleanup efforts

The City of Brook Park, Ohio, is making significant changes to its budget for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024. During a recent council meeting, Mayor Orcutt introduced an order to amend the original appropriation, which includes transferring and adding funds to address various needs in the community.

One of the key topics discussed was the ongoing tornado cleanup efforts. Mayor Orcutt expressed gratitude to the council for their support in this challenging project. He highlighted the need for quick action due to persistent issues with leaks at the local recreation center. The mayor noted that certified numbers from public bidding have finally come in, allowing the city to move forward with necessary renovations.

A major focus of the budget amendment is the creation of a new fund titled the Recreation Center Renovation Fund. This fund will help manage the tornado cleanup expenses and has been allocated $1,200,000. Additionally, the council discussed an amendment to add $22,540 to the capital budget for sewers and drains, specifically for a control board installation at the Sylvia Pump Station.

The overall budget will be adjusted from $4,421,531.40 to $4,444,071.40 to accommodate these changes. The council members supported the amendments, and the motion was passed without any objections. Mayor Orcutt thanked the council for their cooperation in these important matters for the community.
