The Pleasant Valley Spartans High School Girls Volleyball Team was honored at a recent city hall meeting for their impressive achievement as the 2024 Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union 5A state champions. The team, which finished the season with a remarkable record of 35 wins and only 2 losses, showcased their skills and determination throughout the season.

Athletic Director Diane Kramer emphasized the importance of challenging preseason tournaments that prepared the team for their successful state run. The Spartans faced tough competition early in the season, including losses to Anthony Centennial and Orr Scott, both of which reached the state semifinals. This experience helped the team grow stronger as they advanced to the quarterfinals, where they defeated Waukee in straight sets. They continued their winning streak in the semifinals against Dowling Catholic, again winning in three straight sets. In the championship match, the Spartans triumphed over Waukee Northwest, securing the title with a 3-1 victory.

Head Coach Amber Hall expressed her pride in the team's ability to handle adversity and improve throughout the season. She noted that the girls not only excelled as athletes but also grew as individuals, learning valuable life lessons about hard work and resilience.

The city hall event aimed to inspire the young champions, highlighting the qualities of teamwork and dedication that are essential for future leaders in the community. The meeting concluded with a photo opportunity, celebrating the team's achievements and their bright futures ahead.
