Zionsville approves innovative pet friendly tap room plan

During a recent government meeting, officials approved a development plan amendment for the Courtyards of Russell Oaks subdivision. The amendment, identified as docket number 2024-71-DPA, modifies ten residential lots in the northwest section of the subdivision. The motion passed unanimously with a vote of 6-0, following a review of the staff report and resolution of outstanding review items.

The meeting also discussed a new proposal for a self-serve pet-friendly tap room and beer garden called Paws on Tap LLC. This establishment will be located at 10940 Conamara Drive, within the Appaloosa Crossing development. The site covers two acres and will feature a 21,100 square foot building, outdoor seating, and a beer garden where pets are welcome, provided they remain on leashes.

The proposed design aims to blend with existing structures in the area, using materials like cement board panels and stacked limestone. The building will include a covered patio and outdoor roll-up vinyl curtains for colder months. However, the lighting plan requires adjustments to comply with local standards, specifically reducing the height of pole-mounted fixtures from 22 feet to 16 feet and dimming exterior lighting by 50% at 10 PM.

While the signage for Paws on Tap was discussed, it could not be approved at this time due to insufficient details. The proposal received conditional support from staff, pending the necessary revisions to the lighting plan and submission of a final sign plan for review.

The meeting highlighted the community's interest in new developments that cater to both residents and their pets, marking a step forward in enhancing local business offerings.
