In a recent government meeting, highlights from the fall sports seasons of Deering High School and Portland High School were shared, showcasing significant achievements and milestones for both institutions.
Deering High School celebrated a historic moment as all fall sports teams qualified for the playoffs for the first time in 15 years. The football team achieved an impressive 8-2 record, marking their best performance since 2008. Individual accolades included Tavion being named the B South Player of the Year and Coach Scully receiving the B South Coach of the Year award. In golf, Liam Bridal and Jackson Nali competed in the state A golf championships, while the girls' soccer team also made the playoffs, with standout player Elsa Freeman earning the title of Forward of the Year and committing to play Division 1 soccer at Boston College. Both boys' and girls' volleyball teams advanced to the regional semifinals, with Shay Fenton recognized as a first-team volleyball player. Additionally, Ellis Wood was named a first-team all-state athlete and finished fifth in the state cross country championships.

Subscribe for Free On the Portland High School side, the football team emerged as Class A state champions, while both boys' and girls' cross country teams secured the title of state A runner-up. The boys' soccer team also performed well, finishing as the South A regional runner-up. Individual honors included Erin Johnson and Samantha Moore being named Class A state champions in boys' and girls' cross country, respectively. Furthermore, 33 students from Portland High School were recognized on the all-conference team, highlighting the depth of talent within the school.
