Piedmont Composites, a manufacturer of fiberglass products located in Taylorsville, is considering a significant expansion that could enhance its operational efficiency and customer base. Currently employing 47 people, the company produces a range of items, including baptismal pools and steeples. The proposed expansion would involve a capital investment of approximately $7.5 million, which is expected to create between six to ten new jobs with an average starting wage of $20 per hour.
During a recent government meeting, representatives from the Alexander County Economic Development staff recommended a performance-based economic development incentive grant of up to $170,635 to support this expansion. The grant would be distributed over five years, contingent on the company’s investment in building improvements and equipment. In return, Piedmont Composites is projected to generate an estimated $243,750 in ad valorem tax revenue for the county during the same period.
David Heimbaugh, President of Piedmont Composites, emphasized the importance of these incentives for the viability of the project. He highlighted the company’s commitment to employee welfare, noting improvements such as increased wages, health insurance, and a four-day work week, which have contributed to a stable workforce. Heimbaugh expressed gratitude for the county's support and reiterated the company’s goal to continue growing and serving various industries, including marine and signage.
The meeting underscored the potential economic benefits of the expansion for Alexander County, as local officials expressed their support for Piedmont Composites and acknowledged its positive impact on the community.
