However, current historians expressed disappointment over New York State's apparent indifference to the historical significance of the trail and its associated events. They noted that despite the historical importance, there has been little to no initiative from the state to support educational efforts or commemorative activities.

The historians are now collaborating to organize a reenactment that will involve the use of draft horses to pull sleds carrying replicas of the cannons, similar to the original operation. This event aims to provide a tangible learning experience for students, illustrating the logistical challenges faced by the forces during the winter months of 1775.

The meeting underscored the need for local engagement and initiative in preserving and promoting the history of the Knox Trail, as the historians called for community involvement to ensure that this important chapter in American history is not forgotten.
