During a recent government meeting, several individuals and groups were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the community and education sector.

Jack Klein Brooks, a freshman at Winnetonka High School and former student of Chouteau Elementary, was honored for his Eagle Scout project, which involved refurbishing outdoor picnic tables at his old school. His efforts included sanding, removing rust, and repainting the tables, ensuring that students and staff can enjoy the updated outdoor space for years to come.

The staff at Maplewood Elementary was also acknowledged for their commitment to safety. Ten staff members participated in extensive training on sudden cardiac arrest, including a mock drill in partnership with Children's Mercy. Their dedication to preparedness is expected to enhance safety protocols within the school and the broader community.

A special recognition was given to Susan Hyland, videographer John Hajduk, and Clay County Sheriff's Officer Jonathan Bransfield for winning a regional Emmy Award. Their award-winning story highlighted Bransfield's lifesaving actions during a critical incident involving a student. The narrative emphasized the importance of relationships between school resource officers and students, showcasing the impactful role they play in the community.

Additionally, school psychologists Natalie Coster and Carol Grohl were celebrated for their exemplary service. Coster, who works with younger and older students, is known for her innovative approaches to empowering students. Grohl, with over 25 years of experience, has become a mentor and advocate within the district, recognized for her thorough evaluations and support.
