In a recent government meeting, Fox High School celebrated significant community initiatives and achievements, highlighting the school's commitment to honoring local figures and promoting safety and academic excellence.
During the last home game of the season, Fox High honored the late Art Casey, a beloved figure in the community. The student section donned lab coats and goggles in tribute, symbolizing Casey's lasting impact. A \"miracle minute\" fundraiser raised nearly $1,000, which was donated to the Fox High Alumni Association and the Arnold Food Pantry, causes close to Casey's heart. Additionally, the game featured an annual pink out event for breast cancer awareness, with proceeds from student council sales directed to cancer research.
On October 30, the school conducted a successful seat belt check, where only six out of approximately 1,000 individuals checked were found without seat belts. This initiative, organized by the athletic director and principal, will continue monthly to promote safe driving habits.
Fox High's student council also prepared for the annual Veterans Day celebration, welcoming over 100 veterans with a catered luncheon and gift bags filled with handwritten notes. The event included performances from the school band and choir, honoring veterans and recognizing staff members who have served.
At Seckman High School, academic and athletic achievements were also celebrated. Approximately 269 sophomores and juniors participated in the PSAT, a voluntary test that opens doors to scholarships. On October 29, 71 new members were inducted into the National Honor Society, committing to 60 hours of community service. The school's football team secured its fourth consecutive conference championship, and the rivalry game against Fox High ended in a 5-2 victory for Seckman.
Superintendent comments emphasized the district's excellence in honoring veterans and the successful addition of a third-tier bus route, which now accommodates 173 previously unserved elementary students. The superintendent encouraged nominations for the Support Staff of the Year and Teacher of the Year awards, with a deadline of December 13.
As the holiday season approaches, the district looks forward to a Thanksgiving break from November 27 to 29, encouraging families to spend quality time together.
