In a recent government meeting, officials reported significant progress in public safety and opioid response efforts over the past two weeks. The department recorded only two overdose responses, both of which were successfully treated with Narcan, resulting in no fatalities during this period. Additionally, three individuals sought treatment through the amnesty program, marking a positive trend in community engagement.

Year-to-date statistics revealed that the department has handled over 53,000 dispatch calls, averaging about 190 calls per day. Among these, more than 3,000 incidents involved traffic crashes, with 11 resulting in fatalities. The report also highlighted 580 cases that led to Baker Acts and 246 that invoked Marksman Acts. Furthermore, officers have initiated an additional 83,000 calls for service and processed nearly 5,000 public records requests.

In response to a follow-up request from the Florida Police Chiefs Association, 13 officers have been deployed to the Longboat Key area to assist with post-hurricane recovery efforts, with their return expected within ten days.

Looking ahead, the department announced its annual Cops and Cars show scheduled for Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM, with registration fees benefiting Cass of Marion, a local charity.

Fire Chief Clint Welburn echoed the positive trends in opioid response, reporting two overdose responses with no deaths in October. The fire department managed 2,259 calls, including 196 motor vehicle accidents and 10 structure fires.

Overall, the meeting underscored a commitment to public safety and community health, with officials optimistic about ongoing initiatives and community involvement.
