In a recent government meeting, officials approved several significant amendments and updates related to ongoing public infrastructure projects, including park enhancements and construction changes at the Fairgrounds Coliseum.
The meeting began with the approval of an amendment for the pedestrian bridge associated with the Transformation River Phase 1 project, which will see an increase of $195,505. This adjustment was necessary due to unforeseen geological conditions that affected the drilling of large shafts for the bridge. Despite the additional costs, officials noted that the project remains within the overall budget, although it may impact funding for other components like the amphitheater and dam.
Following this, a presentation was made regarding the design updates for improvements at CB Cameron Park and Southlake Park. The proposed enhancements include the addition of 14 new soccer fields, a championship clubhouse, and various amenities aimed at improving accessibility and spectator experience. The CB Cameron Park project is particularly notable as it has been primarily used as a soccer complex since its opening in 1980. The Southlake Park improvements will also focus on upgrading existing facilities and enhancing ADA accessibility.
Additionally, the meeting addressed a change order for the MAPS 4 Fairgrounds Coliseum, which will increase the budget by $103,937 to accommodate necessary additions such as an uninterruptible power supply for IT equipment and drainage systems. Another significant change order for the architectural contract related to the Coliseum was approved, amounting to $648,250, reflecting the extended construction timeline due to delays in equipment procurement.
Lastly, a minor change order for downtown arena building upgrades was also approved, totaling $8,978.5, which is part of routine construction adjustments.
Overall, the meeting highlighted the ongoing commitment to enhancing public spaces and infrastructure, ensuring that projects remain on track despite challenges encountered during construction.
