During a recent government meeting, Mayor Littmann presented a $1,000 check to the Sun Shire Academy Preschool Teachers for their victory in the haunted house contest at Shreek Creek, which they shared with the Virgin Valley artist. Both groups were recognized for their creativity, with the preschool also winning the fan favorite award, as determined by a public vote of 600 participants. The event featured a spooky atmosphere, highlighted by a popcorn machine with a rat's head, showcasing the imaginative efforts of the teachers involved.
Following the presentation, public comments were invited, starting with Debbie Benham, who announced the upcoming Parade of Lights scheduled for December 6th at 5:30 PM. The parade will commence at the church on Arrowhead Lane and proceed to City Hall, where refreshments will be provided by the Eureka Casino. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the event, with a goal to collect £20,000 in food and non-perishable items for the Salvation Army food pantry, benefiting local residents in need. As of the meeting, Benham reported that £8,340 had already been collected. Donations can be made through various drop-off locations throughout the city.
Diana McKinney, president of the Southern Nevada Orchestra Board of Directors, also addressed the council, highlighting the orchestra's upcoming 10th season, which will feature music from renowned American composers such as John Philip Sousa and Aaron Copland. This initiative aims to celebrate and promote the rich musical heritage of the United States.
The meeting underscored community engagement through festive events and cultural initiatives, reflecting the city's commitment to supporting local organizations and fostering a vibrant community spirit.
