In a recent meeting of the Elyria City Schools Board of Education, several key topics were discussed, including preparations for Veterans Day and updates on board policies.
Maria Gilmore will lead the upcoming meeting, which coincides with Veterans Day on Monday, November 11. The district is set to host a large parade and celebration in Windsor to honor veterans. Board member Amy will participate remotely, capturing photos and videos to share with those unable to attend.
The board also conducted a first reading of a new policy regarding credit cards and cash reserve balances. The policy adjustment includes a slight increase in the credit limit to facilitate payments for workers' compensation benefits. Additionally, the cash reserve balance policy was recommended by the Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) to ensure financial stability in case of unforeseen circumstances.
The meeting highlighted the academic achievements of Elyria students, with 69 students earning a spot on the first quarter honor roll. Recognition was also given to students at the Lorraine County Joint Vocational School (JVS) for their accomplishments in various trades during a recent meeting held at Kenworth of Cleveland.
The board plans to schedule another meeting at the JVS in the near future, with dates to be announced.
