In a recent government meeting, the planning commission approved a site plan for the Best Tire Company, which will establish an 8,528 square foot tire store at the Keeneland Commercial Center. The project, developed by Bass Tire Company, Inc., is designed to address noise concerns due to its proximity to residential areas. A sound study was conducted, leading to the recommendation of a six-foot acoustical barrier wall to mitigate noise from the facility. The developers have also made adjustments to the building's design, including relocating compressors and HVAC units inside to further reduce noise pollution.
The commission emphasized the importance of adhering to the city's noise ordinance, which sets specific daytime and nighttime noise thresholds. The planning staff expressed appreciation for the developers' cooperation in addressing these concerns, highlighting the project's alignment with city standards.
Additionally, the commission discussed a zoning application for approximately 8.17 acres along Jackson Parkway, proposed to be rezoned from heavy industrial to commercial highway. The Athena Hospitality Group is seeking this change to facilitate the development of a hotel. The planning staff noted that several adjacent property owners have expressed support for the rezoning, indicating a community interest in transitioning the area to accommodate commercial uses.
The commission plans to hold a public hearing on December 4 to further evaluate the appropriateness of the proposed zoning change. The discussions reflect ongoing efforts to balance commercial development with the needs and concerns of nearby residents, particularly regarding noise and land use compatibility.
