In a recent government meeting, officials approved a significant contract renewal for the Parents for Parents program, aimed at facilitating safe reunification of children with their parents. The program, which has been operational since 2018, is managed by the Children's Home Society of Washington, now known as ACKN, and is funded entirely through grants. The renewed contract, amounting to $64,175, will support a part-time benefited position for a parent coordinator, who will work 21 hours per week and collaborate with three other counties.
The meeting also highlighted the Dungeness Off Channel Reservoir project, a major initiative led by the Public Works Department. This project aims to enhance river flow during late summer by storing water from the Dungeness River in winter and spring. The reservoir will help mitigate drought impacts on local agriculture by providing a stable water supply. The site, currently an illegal dumping area, will undergo environmental testing and debris removal as part of the project.
Commissioners expressed their satisfaction with the progress of the reservoir project, noting that the governor has signed the deed for land acquisition, with closing expected imminently. The contract with engineering firm Anchor QEA was amended to extend the timeline for project completion to December 31, 2025, reflecting the ongoing commitment to restoring and managing local water resources effectively. Both initiatives received unanimous support from the commissioners, marking a step forward in community welfare and environmental management.
