During a recent government meeting, officials provided an update on the ongoing redevelopment of the Concord School site, which is set to transform into a community center and library. The project, which is divided into phases, includes significant renovations and new constructions aimed at enhancing community accessibility and resources.
The Concord School has received a new roof and HVAC system, although it has not undergone seismic retrofitting. The new library, currently under construction, features a striking 21-foot ceiling and is designed to overlook a play area and green space. This library is part of a $15 million investment, while the overall project, including park upgrades, totals approximately $18 million.
Accessibility improvements are a key focus, with plans for a new entrance and elevator to make the facility ADA compliant. The library and park are expected to open around this time next year, with the possibility of the library debuting even sooner.
Phase 1 of the project will include cosmetic upgrades to the school, particularly on the second floor, which will serve as public space. The lower floor will primarily be designated for staff use, with future programming to be determined after a comprehensive planning process.
Officials highlighted that the facility will offer various activities, including basketball and pickleball, in the gymnasium, as well as meeting and classroom spaces for community events. The construction team is also prioritizing the paving of the parking lot to improve access before winter weather sets in.
Community members can look forward to additional tours of the site in the spring as the project progresses.
