During a recent government meeting, El Dorado High School senior Andres Gil was honored for his exceptional contributions to both academics and athletics. Gil, who led the Pledge of Allegiance, has been a dedicated member of the school's marching band, serving as drum major during their historic performance at the UIL State Marching Band Championship. He ranks 13th in his class and is set to graduate with over 30 dual credit hours, while also captaining the boys' basketball team.
Interim Superintendent Mr. Vasquez introduced new leadership within the district, welcoming Chief Financial Officer David Solis and Director of Budgeting and Financial Services David Gutierrez. He highlighted the recognition of Herschel Antwine and Manuel Puentes Middle Schools as Texas Schools to Watch, commending their commitment to educational excellence.
The meeting also celebrated various student achievements, including the winners of the 2nd annual SISD Dia de los Muertos showcase, where nine students were recognized for their artistic contributions. Additionally, student athletes from America's High School were honored for their participation in the UIL State Cross Country Championships and for winning district titles in tennis and cross country.
The meeting concluded with accolades for outstanding educators, including Rosa Rodriguez, who was named the Texas School Counselor of the Year. The Eldorado Aztec marching band was also recognized for their remarkable season, marking their first appearance at the UIL State Marching Band Contest.
