During a recent meeting of the Rock Springs City Council, several key topics were discussed, including the proclamation of Small Business Saturday, public safety concerns, and various financial approvals.
Mayor Max Mickelson proclaimed November 30, 2024, as Small Business Saturday, emphasizing the vital role small businesses play in the local economy. He highlighted that small businesses account for 99.9% of firms with paid employees in the U.S. and are responsible for 62.7% of net new jobs created since 1995. The mayor urged residents to support local businesses, noting that 68 cents of every dollar spent at these establishments remains in the community.
In a poignant public comment, Trina Britton shared a personal story about her mother’s near brush with carbon monoxide poisoning, which was detected thanks to a functioning alarm. Britton expressed gratitude to the Rock Springs Fire Department for their prompt response and emphasized the importance of checking safety devices, particularly for seniors who may be vulnerable.
The council also addressed several financial matters, including the approval of the fiscal year 2025 final budget and the audit report for fiscal year 2024. Additionally, the council unanimously approved employee Christmas bonuses and several grant agreements aimed at enhancing community projects and public safety.
The meeting concluded with the council's approval of a contract with Inliner Solutions, LLC, for $845,138, and a resolution to provide retention bonuses to police officers, underscoring the city’s commitment to supporting its workforce and ensuring public safety.
