In a recent borough council meeting, officials reflected on the high voter turnout of 84% during the recent election, expressing gratitude to poll workers and election judges for their efforts. Despite the disappointing election results for some, the turnout was seen as a positive sign of civic engagement.
The meeting also marked a bittersweet farewell to two key borough managers. Alan Guzzarda, who has served as the interim borough manager since March, will be leaving for California by November 15. Council members praised his leadership during a challenging transition period and expressed appreciation for his contributions to the borough. Guzzarda is expected to continue assisting in a part-time, virtual capacity.
Additionally, borough manager Matt West announced his departure at the end of December for a new professional opportunity. Council is currently interviewing candidates to fill the managerial position, with plans for a formal send-off for West at the end of the year.
In response to ongoing dry conditions, Mayor Deutsch issued a burn ban to mitigate fire risks, emphasizing the importance of safety in light of recent weather patterns. The ban prohibits non-cooking open flames, including fire pits, while still allowing grilling. The council is set to discuss the extension of this ban later in the meeting.
The mayor also reminded residents to secure their properties following a recent vehicle theft, urging the community to remain vigilant and proactive in preventing crime.
