As respiratory illness season approaches, health officials report currently low activity levels for both COVID-19 and flu, but urge the public to remain vigilant. A slight uptick in RSV positivity rates has raised concerns, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.
To combat potential outbreaks, the health department has been proactive, launching respiratory vaccination clinics in partnership with Wegmans Pharmacy and Sioux Falls Health Center since August. These clinics aim to provide vaccinations to uninsured and underinsured adults, with 13 clinics already conducted and two more scheduled, including a COVID-19 clinic on December 12 at the West Windsor Senior Center.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about their vaccination needs, as recommendations vary based on age, vaccine history, and brand. Health officials advise consulting healthcare providers for personalized guidance.
In addition to respiratory health, the department announced a rabies clinic on November 21 at the Princeton Junction Firehouse, with additional clinics planned in December and January. Residents are reminded that dog licenses must be renewed by January 31, with a noted decrease in compliance prompting officials to encourage timely renewals to ensure pet safety and health.
Lastly, the health department is distributing free radon test kits, emphasizing the importance of testing as homes are sealed for winter. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity while supplies last.
