During a recent town council meeting, officials addressed several key community updates, including ongoing road paving projects, leaf collection efforts, and the status of the Memorial Park playground renovation.
Jim, a council member, reported that despite the November chill, road paving continues with Elizabethtown Gas completing work on Trinity Place and Waterston Street. The striping of these streets is scheduled for this Friday, and additional paving in Ward 2 is expected to wrap up within two weeks, weather permitting. Bids for a new paving project at Clover and Francis Terrace will be opened on Thursday, with hopes of awarding a contract by the next meeting on December 3rd.
Leaf collection is progressing well, with crews managing the increased volume due to the early onset of leaf fall this season. Residents are reminded to keep leaf piles free of contaminants to ensure proper disposal.
The council also provided an update on the Memorial Park playground, which has faced delays due to equipment reorderings. However, progress is anticipated next week with the installation of the port in place surface, followed by the fencing and remaining equipment.
In a somber moment, the council expressed condolences for Brandon Kinlott, a Westfield High School senior who tragically lost his life in a car accident. A moment of silence was observed in his memory, and the council acknowledged the support being offered to students and staff by the school administration.
Additionally, a proclamation was presented in recognition of National Children's Grief Awareness Month, highlighting the work of Imagine, a local organization dedicated to supporting grieving children and families. Executive Director Lindsey Schambach emphasized the importance of community support in addressing grief and announced an upcoming webinar aimed at educating the public on discussing death and dying with children.
The meeting underscored the council's commitment to community welfare, addressing both ongoing projects and the emotional needs of residents during difficult times.
