During a recent government meeting, the Van Hatten High School girls golf team was honored for their remarkable achievement in winning the 6A state championship. The recognition was presented by Kristen, a member of the 1992 state championship team, highlighting the legacy of excellence in the school's golf program.
The girls golf team secured the championship with an impressive total of 593 strokes, finishing 29 strokes ahead of the runner-up during the two-day event held at Cary Park Golf Course in Hutchinson. Individual standout performances included Cat Ball, who was the 6A state runner-up with a score of 142, followed by Maddie Myers in third place with 145. Caitlin Lagavec tied for fifth with a score of 150, while Lily Barr, Wren Burton, and Emily Bluegazer placed 20th, 22nd, and 27th, respectively.
Coached by Paige McCarthy and Kim Grusenberry, this victory marks the 12th state championship for the MHS golf program, underscoring a tradition of excellence. The meeting concluded with expressions of pride and appreciation for the team's hard work and dedication.
