In a recent government meeting, officials highlighted significant advancements in Advanced Placement (AP) course enrollment and performance at Oak Park and River Forest High School (OPRF). For the 2023-2024 academic year, OPRF students have access to 30 AP courses, with a notable increase in both enrollment and exam success rates over the past five years. The percentage of students scoring 3 or higher on AP exams rose from 82% to 88%, with 2,503 exams taken by 1,118 students.
OPRF's performance surpassed state and global averages in nearly all AP subjects, except for AP 3D Art and Design, which had limited participation. The school was recognized on the College Board AP School Honor Roll, achieving silver distinction for growth in college credit attainment and course participation. A total of 188 students were named AP Scholars, marking a 21% increase from the previous year, while 110 students received honors, a 53% rise. Additionally, 172 students were recognized with Distinction, a 26% increase, and two students earned the AP International Diploma Award for the first time.
Looking ahead, OPRF plans to implement several strategies to further enhance AP course accessibility and success, particularly for underrepresented students. Initiatives include using the AP Potential report to recruit students, introducing a \"Bridge to AP History and Social Science\" course, and developing peer mentoring programs. The school aims to increase early AP course enrollment to better prepare students for college-level coursework.
Officials emphasized the importance of engaging parents in discussions about the benefits of AP participation, aiming to build confidence in students' abilities to succeed in these rigorous courses. The meeting concluded with commendations for the progress made and a commitment to continue fostering an inclusive and supportive academic environment.
