The Mission of Love Food Hub has emerged as a critical resource, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic when many food pantries faced supply shortages. In response, the organization partnered with Second Harvest to enhance their food storage capacity and maintain a steady inventory. This collaboration has positioned Mission of Love as the first regional food hub, enabling them to supply local food pantries effectively.

Ortowsky detailed the financial support received from Northampton County, which has facilitated the expansion of their facilities, including a new refrigerated building and additional cold storage. The total investment from the county amounts to approximately $350,000 for the new building and various grants for equipment, including a new truck and forklift.

The food hub operates on a model that relies heavily on donations from local food chains, farmers, and manufacturers, allowing them to distribute a significant volume of food—up to 46 pallets weekly—across the region. This model not only addresses immediate food needs but also fosters community partnerships, ensuring that families facing food insecurity receive the support they require.
