West Palm Beach has unveiled South Florida's first and only outdoor ice skating rink, located right outside The Bend Hotel on the downtown waterfront. Despite the region's warm climate, the rink features real ice, maintained at a solid state even in temperatures reaching the high eighties, thanks to a patented freezing technique that operates from below the surface.
At the rink's opening, the first skaters confirmed the authenticity of the ice, which is smoothed out by a Zamboni, similar to those used in other successful rinks in Southern California and Las Vegas. Local skater Sasha Siegel, who previously competed in Ohio, expressed her enthusiasm for the new venue, highlighting it as a perfect spot for family outings and personal practice.
The outdoor rink will remain open until early March, offering admission that includes skate rentals, along with snacks available for purchase. Visitors can access the rink from the front of The Bend Hotel, located at 251 North Narcissus Avenue, making it a convenient and unique winter attraction in the heart of West Palm Beach.
