In a recent government meeting, city council members approved several key items, including a bid for propane sales and service, and two rezone requests aimed at facilitating residential development.
The council unanimously approved sections 1 through 3 of item 4a, which included an emergency declaration. Following this, they considered a bid for propane services, which was awarded to McGraw Oil after receiving only one bid. The contract, which spans three years, features a fixed price that decreases over time, ensuring cost stability for the city.
Next on the agenda was a rezone request for property on Kaleswitch Road, transitioning from general agricultural (A-1) to single-family residential (R-1) zoning. This change aligns with the city’s future land use plans and aims to support the construction of single-family homes. The council noted that the original request for R-2 zoning was modified to R-1 after discussions with the planning commission, reflecting a consensus on maintaining the area's residential character.
The council also addressed a similar rezone request for a property on Lee Avenue, which sought to change from A-1 to R-1 zoning. This request was prompted by the owner's intention to build a single-family home, as the original application for R-4 zoning was deemed inappropriate for the intended use. The owner, relocating from Oregon, expressed their commitment to establishing a permanent residence in the area.
Both rezone requests were approved, along with the associated emergency clauses, signaling the council's support for residential development in the community. The meeting concluded with a focus on enhancing local housing options while maintaining the integrity of existing neighborhoods.
