The Laconia School Board convened on November 8, 2024, for its first meeting of the new term, marked by the swearing-in of three new board members: Jennifer Anderson, Nancy Simoneau, and Zachary Day. City Clerk Katie Gardano officiated the oath of office, emphasizing the importance of their roles in serving the community.
Following the introductions, the board proceeded to elect its officers for the year. Board member Nick Grennan was nominated and subsequently elected as the new chair with a vote of 6 to 1. Jennifer Anderson was elected as vice chair, receiving unanimous support from the board members present. Assistant Superintendent Hines was also reappointed as the board clerk.
The meeting included the approval of the agenda and minutes from the previous meeting, both of which passed without opposition. Public comment was briefly opened, but no residents chose to speak.
In a notable development, the board chair announced the formation of a new Superintendent Search Committee, aimed at preparing for the upcoming 2025-2026 superintendent selection process. This addition brings the total number of standing committees to five, including facilities, budget and personnel, policy, and strategic planning.
Board members expressed their enthusiasm for upcoming community events, including a cribbage night at the high school, which has already attracted 26 teams. The meeting concluded with a commitment to maintaining efficient operations and fostering community engagement throughout the year.
