In a recent briefing, the humanitarian coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territory, Mohammed Hadi, provided a stark account of the dire conditions in Gaza during his two-day visit. Hadi reported that the Anangua School, currently sheltering hundreds of displaced families, is facing unbearable living conditions, lacking essential resources such as food, water, and functioning toilets. He described the situation as \"beyond imagination,\" with sewage and waste contaminating the overcrowded facilities.
During his visit, Hadi also inspected a waste collection point where humanitarian partners are working to manage trash disposal to mitigate health and environmental hazards. He emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire to facilitate humanitarian aid operations in Gaza.
Additionally, Hadi visited two temporary learning spaces aimed at supporting students with hearing loss, highlighting the impact of ongoing conflict on education. With 95% of schools in Gaza damaged over the past year, these centers provide crucial educational and psychological support to thousands of traumatized children.
In a related update, a polio vaccination campaign is underway in Northern Gaza, targeting approximately 90% of eligible children. Since the campaign's launch, over 105,000 children have received their second vaccine dose, as coordinated by the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and UNRWA.
Meanwhile, in the West Bank, reports indicate that Israeli forces have employed lethal tactics in operations in the Tubas and Jenin areas, resulting in fatalities and significant damage to water and sewage infrastructure. The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) plans to assess the situation as soon as conditions permit.
