In a recent government meeting held in Saint George, officials discussed significant infrastructure developments in Washington County, highlighting over $893 million allocated for various projects over the past decade. Cameron Gay, the Region 4 Program Manager, presented an overview of ongoing and upcoming projects aimed at improving transportation and connectivity in the area.
Key projects mentioned include the South Cedar Interchange, which will enhance the existing interchange and add three lanes in each direction, set to begin construction in 2026. Other notable projects include the widening of I-15 from milepost 6 to 8, which will expand the current two-lane configuration to three lanes in each direction, and the addition of local crossings to improve connectivity in the growing east side of Saint George.
The meeting also addressed the Northern Corridor project, with Washington County Attorney Eric Clarke expressing concerns over the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) recent proposal to revoke UDOT's existing right-of-way for the road connecting Washington Parkway to Red Hills Parkway. Clarke emphasized the need for continued collaboration between local and federal entities to ensure the road's development aligns with community traffic needs.
Additionally, local partnerships were highlighted, including a $12.8 million active transportation project that will create a separated bike path along SR 7, enhancing safety for cyclists. The Tocqueville bypass road project, which is nearing completion, will also facilitate better traffic flow and connectivity in the region.
Overall, the meeting underscored the ongoing commitment to improving infrastructure in Washington County, addressing both current needs and future growth, while navigating regulatory challenges posed by federal agencies.
