The council voted in favor of transitioning the northeast corner of South 18th Avenue and County Trunk NN from a planned business park to a residential zone, specifically for single-family homes. This decision reflects a growing demand for housing in the city, as highlighted by council members who emphasized the need for residential development over industrial use, which has been a concern due to increased truck traffic.

Alderman Bernstein expressed a commitment to the process, noting that this decision is just the first step towards revitalizing the area, which has not seen a new subdivision in a decade. He assured constituents that their input would be considered in future development plans, reinforcing the council's intent to prioritize community interests.

In addition to housing discussions, the Parks and Recreation Commission reported on various initiatives and activities from their recent meeting. The Regner swim pond saw an increase in visitors this year, with notable success in inflatable usage. However, despite increased revenues from season passes, the park still faced an operating loss, prompting recommendations for improvements in the upcoming season.

The commission also highlighted ongoing projects at Lac La Ronne, including community engagement activities and an Eagle Scout project that contributed to the nature playground. Furthermore, updates were provided on the construction of the White family cabin at Ridge Run, scheduled for completion by May 1st, and plans for tree planting in the coming year.
