In a recent government meeting, the town of Moraga honored Afsha Hamid for her exemplary service as the planning director from June 2020 to November 2024. Mayor Theresa Onoda, alongside council members and town staff, presented a commendation recognizing Hamid's significant contributions during a transformative period for the town.

Hamid played a pivotal role in overseeing project reviews and complex developments, notably securing state approval for Moraga's housing element in September 2023 and facilitating the town council's approval of the general plan in November 2024. Her extensive design experience led to enhancements in the town's design guidelines and streamlined development processes, reflecting her deep understanding of state law.

The commendation highlighted Hamid's commitment to creating pedestrian-friendly spaces and improving commercial centers while preserving Moraga's unique character. She was instrumental in obtaining approvals for key land use projects, including a 66-unit multifamily residential development at 1600 School Street, which received planning commission approval on October 29, 2024.
