During the recent board meeting, Brian Siaso, principal of Victor Senior High School, provided an encouraging update on the college application progress of the senior class. Notably, over 60% of seniors have applied for early action decisions this year, a significant increase from 30% two years ago and 38% last year. This upward trend reflects the strong academic preparation and motivation among students, bolstered by a successful college summer camp that equipped them with essential application tools.

Siaso acknowledged the contributions of Erin Jacobs and English teachers Deb McManus, Matt Maine, and Emily Policelli, who played pivotal roles in the summer camp and ongoing college workshops. These initiatives have seen high participation rates, indicating a proactive approach among students toward their college futures.

In addition to the college application updates, Siaso congratulated Christy Rasinski, an English as a New Language (ENL) teacher, who is set to receive the 2024 New York State ENL High School Teacher of the Year award. This recognition, presented by Teachers College at Columbia University, highlights Rasinski's dedication to supporting students who speak languages other than English.

Siaso also mentioned Brody Stewart, who recently participated in the National Civic Speech Championship in Washington, DC. Stewart's involvement in this prestigious event underscores the school's commitment to fostering civic engagement among its students.
