During a recent government meeting, discussions centered on the aging stadium lighting system, highlighting the need for a potential upgrade from halogen to LED lights. The current setup, which consists of approximately 30 halogen bulbs across four towers, has been criticized for its short lifespan, high energy costs, and poor lighting quality.
The athletic director pointed out that halogen lights typically last only about 1,000 hours and generate significant heat, contributing to elevated energy bills. In contrast, LED lights offer a lifespan of 50,000 to 100,000 hours, lower heat output, and greater energy efficiency. Additionally, LEDs can be programmed for various colors, enhancing the versatility of stadium lighting.
The director emphasized that many school districts are transitioning to LED systems, suggesting that the district should consider a similar move as part of its long-term capital improvement plans. While no immediate action was proposed, the discussion underscored the importance of evaluating the lighting system to reduce costs and improve the overall quality of illumination at the stadium.
