During a recent government meeting, Thomas McKay, the owner, outlined plans for the store, which will be located adjacent to a supermarket currently under construction. McKay anticipates that the new facility will open in conjunction with the supermarket, likely within six to nine months. The construction of the supermarket is already underway, with footers in place and an expected opening in summer 2024.

The design of McKay's facility is contingent upon the approval of its application, which was discussed during the meeting. McKay emphasized the importance of creating a welcoming environment for all customers, particularly women and families. He cited inspirations from successful retail models, including Total Wine and a Minneapolis-based store, Kowalski's, as references for his vision.

The board unanimously approved McKay's application for a Class A beer, wine, and liquor license, granting a conditional approval valid for 180 days. This decision reflects the board's commitment to ensuring timely progress on the project, especially given the limited availability of liquor licenses in the area.

In a separate agenda item, WJ Dent and Sons requested a permanent extension of premises to include a new walk-in cooler and an existing exterior walk-in box. The request aims to enhance operational efficiency by consolidating storage for alcoholic beverages closer to the bar area. The board is considering this request, which involves two components: approval for the existing space and conditional approval for the new installation once completed.
