During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the findings of a traffic study conducted on 1020 South, a local street that has seen two reported crashes in the past two years. The study highlighted the importance of reporting all traffic incidents, as many go unreported, which can skew data and hinder safety assessments.
The traffic analysis revealed that the average speed on 1020 South is 26 miles per hour, slightly below the posted limit of 25 miles per hour. However, the critical figure noted was that 85% of vehicles were traveling at 30 miles per hour, indicating a potential safety concern. The study recorded over 6,000 vehicles on the street, averaging 81 vehicles per hour or approximately 1,900 vehicles daily.
To address these findings, officials proposed several solutions, including the installation of an additional 25-mile-per-hour speed limit sign just west of 770 West, where one sign is already present. Furthermore, they suggested providing speed data to the local police department to enhance enforcement efforts.
The discussions underscored the need for community engagement in reporting traffic incidents and the importance of ongoing monitoring to improve road safety.
