During the recent meeting of the Columbia Heights Public Schools Board, members approved the agenda and discussed upcoming events, including a school board work session on November 19 and a regular meeting on November 26. The board also announced that there would be no school from November 27 to 29, with the district closed on those dates.
In a segment dedicated to public communication, board members welcomed brief remarks from citizens and employees, emphasizing that no actions would be taken on these requests during the meeting.
The board moved on to the consent agenda, which included compliance assurances with state and federal anti-discrimination laws, personnel reports, and minutes from previous meetings. The consent agenda was approved unanimously.
A significant highlight of the meeting was the acknowledgment of contributions to the district. The board passed a resolution to accept various donations, including $2,000 for track and field and $2,500 for boys basketball from the Columbia Heights athletic boosters, as well as a $5,000 donation from Halima Ahmed. Other contributions included backpacks, winter clothing, and personal hygiene products, totaling $33,180 in monetary contributions for the fiscal year 2024-2025.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adopt the resolution acknowledging these contributions, reflecting the community's support for local schools.
