The City of Belton has officially approved an extension of its longstanding fire protection agreement with the Mount Pleasant Fire Protection District. This agreement, which has been in place since the early 1990s, designates Belton as the sole provider of fire protection services for Mount Pleasant. The current contract, established in 2019, was set for five years with the option for two additional two-year extensions. The council confirmed that no changes were necessary to the existing terms, leading to a unanimous vote in favor of the extension.
In addition to the fire protection agreement, the council also approved a significant contract with Miles Excavating Incorporated for the Markey Parkway Extension project. The contract, valued at $4,802,378.14, is part of the STBG 3356 initiative aimed at enhancing local infrastructure. The council's discussions highlighted the importance of these projects in maintaining public safety and improving community access.
