In a recent government meeting, the board took significant steps to address public health concerns and land development in the region.
The board unanimously approved a resolution declaring a public health nuisance at 10941 Crescent Drive in Nisswa, Minnesota, due to the accumulation of household waste and improperly stored materials that attract pests. This decision follows a similar resolution for a property at 11216 Sorensen Lake Lane in Merrifield, where the property owner has made some progress in addressing the issues but has not fully abated the nuisances. The board authorized the use of solid waste funds to assist in resolving the ongoing problems, which could be tax-assessed against the property if the owner fails to comply.
Additionally, the board reviewed the preliminary plat for the Baker Event Center, which will consist of three lots located on the Nokexipi River in Long Lake Township. Despite opposition from local residents, particularly those living on Church Road, the planning commission had previously approved a conditional use permit for the event center. The board voted in favor of the preliminary plat, with one commissioner voting against it as a protest.
The meeting also included a discussion on the King Shores plat, which proposes four individual lots on Partridge Lake. The planning commission recommended approval, and the board is set to vote on both the preliminary and final plats in the upcoming sessions.
These actions reflect the board's commitment to addressing public health issues while also facilitating local development, despite community concerns regarding certain projects.
