During a recent government meeting, the El Segundo community celebrated a significant milestone in local sports history: the recognition of the first-ever girls flag football team at El Segundo High School. Principal Gephardt expressed pride in the team's achievements, highlighting their competitive spirit and impressive record of 6 wins and 4 losses in their inaugural season.
The team, coached by Coach McCann, demonstrated resilience throughout the season, with all four losses coming by a narrow margin of no more than one score. Notably, they made it to the Division 3 playoffs, where they again lost by just six points. Gephardt emphasized the importance of teamwork and dedication, crediting the coaching staff and supportive parents for the team's success.
In addition to their competitive record, several players received individual accolades, including all-league selections and nominations for the LA Chargers girls all-star flag football team. The meeting concluded with a ceremony where team members were presented with certificates, marking their achievements and the community's support for girls' sports. The event underscored the growing recognition and encouragement of female athletes in the region.
