During a recent government meeting, a proposed resolution aimed at addressing housing insecurity and homelessness in Stevens Point was discussed. Alder Lettink, who spearheaded the initiative, emphasized the collaborative effort involved in drafting the resolution, which included feedback from the Stevens Point Housing Authority.
The resolution, which spans three pages, seeks to tackle the escalating crisis of affordable housing in the area. Alder Lettink expressed his support for the resolution as it stands but remained open to further edits based on input from commissions or public comments.
Public support for the resolution was evident, with Fran McKinney, a member of Frame Memorial Presbyterian Church, presenting a letter to the mayor. The letter, signed by numerous church members, highlighted the urgent need for affordable housing and affirmed the belief that every individual deserves safe and dignified living conditions. McKinney urged that the letter be shared at all city meetings concerning the resolution.
Another attendee, Sean Mara, also voiced his support, acknowledging the complexities of homelessness and the importance of providing stable housing solutions. The discussions reflect a growing recognition of the housing crisis in Stevens Point and a commitment from local leaders and community members to seek effective solutions.
