During a recent government meeting, the commissioners approved three items on the consent agenda, including the acceptance of the commissioner's court meeting minutes from October 1st and the adaptations of personnel for the county district clerk's office and the Carleton County Tax Office.
Sheriff Beavers presented the financial report for July and August, highlighting a significant increase in various law enforcement metrics. In July, the sheriff's office reported total revenues of approximately $38,660, with a notable rise in incident reports, which increased by 13.5% to 6,560 compared to the previous year. Arrests also surged by 17%, totaling 1,134 year-to-date.
The report indicated a dramatic 200% increase in inmates held for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, rising to 294 from 94 last year. Additionally, admissions to the jail rose by 24% to 3,152, while releases increased by 24% to 3,057. The sheriff's office also noted a 7% increase in commercial vehicle contacts.
In August, the financial intake was approximately $33,178, with incident reports up 12% year-to-date to 7,527. Arrests continued to climb, with a 16% increase to 1,300. The number of inmates held rose by 202% to 339, and admissions increased by 22% to 3,612. The report also highlighted a 69% increase in course hours, with 644 students taught.
The sheriff's office is currently seeking to fill several positions, including four deputy openings, three detention officers, and two communications roles. The meeting underscored the growing demands on law enforcement and the need for additional resources to manage the rising crime rates and inmate population.
