In a recent city council meeting, Apple Valley officials canvassed the results of the November 5, 2024 general election, reporting a robust voter turnout of 83%. This figure aligns closely with previous presidential election years, with 36,633 registered voters and an additional 2,536 registering on election day. Of the total 32,486 voters, 50% cast their ballots at polling places on election day, while 18% voted early in person at city hall, 20% at county service centers, and 12% voted by mail.
The election results confirmed the election of Ruth Grendel and Lisa Hiebert as city council members for four-year terms, commencing January 6, 2025. John H. Retzicle and Pat Benner followed in third and fourth place, respectively. Notably, the council had previously passed a resolution that streamlined the counting of write-in votes, which contributed to a more efficient election process.
City Clerk Christina, who oversaw her first election in Apple Valley, received commendations for her leadership and the successful execution of the election. Council members expressed gratitude towards the election judges and staff for their dedication, with many working extended hours to ensure a smooth voting experience.
The council unanimously approved the resolution to canvass the election results, officially recognizing Grendel and Hiebert's election. The meeting concluded with acknowledgments of the collaborative efforts that contributed to the election's success.
