He acknowledged the Deltona American Legion Post 255 and its Commander, Pedro Verzorio, for their vital role in supporting veterans.

Dougherty, a proud parent of four Army officers, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate veterans, stating, \"Your service and your sacrifice represents the best of us, the best of America.\" He urged attendees to live out the freedoms that veterans have fought to protect.

The ceremony featured an invocation by Pastor Fred Lowery, who highlighted the blessings of freedom and the importance of honoring veterans. Following the invocation, the American Legion Post 255 presented the colors, and attendees participated in the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem, performed by Melody Aviles, a young girl who overcame significant challenges.

Specialist Gabriel Aviles, a veteran with extensive military experience, also addressed the crowd, expressing appreciation for his fellow service members. The event concluded with a recognition of each branch of military service, allowing veterans present to stand and be acknowledged.

Former Deltona City Commissioner Lauren King, a Navy SEAL veteran, served as the guest speaker, thanking the city for its support of veteran initiatives and extending birthday wishes to Marines in attendance.
